Da Cunha

Activity
GRUPO DA CUNHA was created in 1986 by a family of artisan bakers from Carral (La Coruña). In the first years of its activity we focused on the elaboration of the different traditional pieces of bread from Carral, which we distributed door to door. This direct deal with the clients, together with the quality of the product, allowed a rapid consolidation in the area and, subsequently, the expansion to the neighboring city council, including the city of La Coruña. From this moment and before the demand of our customers we began to produce products of pastries, confectionery and empanadas. Always with an eye on quality and preserving traditional flavors, in 1999 we inaugurated the milling mill, which has 5 stone mills for the production of native wheat flour grown by farmers in the area. In 2005 we carried out a large extension, with the inauguration of a new bakery workshop, equipped with 11 ovens. The new facilities allowed to expand the research on different components that make up the different products we manufacture, and to incorporate a new line of precooked bread, which allows us to arrive with our products at the national level. In 2016 we created the Chair of Bread and Cereal, an institutional chair between the University of Santiago de Compostela (Campus Terra in Lugo) and the Da Cunha Group. The aims of the chair are research, the promotion of teaching and the dissemination of knowledge in the field of bread and cereal. Currently, the Da Cunha Group consists of 3 large companies, and has 14 own retail stores located in the province of La Coruña. Reaching more than 800 stores, and large stores nationwide.

History
The Da Cunha Group was founded in 1986 by a family of bakers in Carral (A Coruña). Initially, they focused on the production and distribution of traditional Carral bread. Thanks to their direct contact with customers and the quality of their product, the company quickly established itself and expanded to nearby towns and the city of A Coruña. They later expanded their offerings to include pastries, confectionery, and empanadas. In 1999, they opened their own mill with five stone mills for producing native wheat flour. In 2005, they expanded their facilities with a new bakery and a line of parbaked bread, allowing for national distribution. Currently, the group is made up of three companies and has eight stores, serving more than 800 shops and supermarkets throughout Spain.

Product types
The company offers a wide range of products, including fresh bread, parbaked bread, empanadas, traditional confectionery, pastries and cakes, artisan ice cream, and certified flours and seeds. Among its most notable products are parbaked bread, Galician empanadas, traditional confectionery, and San Martiño ice cream made with 100% Galician milk.

Mission
The Da Cunha Group's fundamental objective is to control all the processes necessary to offer high-quality baked goods, focusing on vertical integration, the recovery of native varieties, and environmental sustainability. Its long-term goal is to maintain continuous improvement and consolidate its position as a benchmark in the Spanish baking industry.
