Activity
The history of Bodegas Luis Gurpegui Muga goes back to the first years of the 20th century when Primitivo Gurpegui Muro, first of the generation of this family, created his first winery in San Adrián (Navarra). Some facilities that, after his death, would be responsible for strengthening his son, Luis Gurpegui Muga. It was he who, with great effort and sacrifice made the great expansion of their wines in the DOCa Rioja. An expansion that was not only for the region of the seven valleys, but also reached other Denominations of Origin such as Navarra or Ribera de Guadiana. In this way, the bottling of the current brands begins, such as Viñadrián, Gurpegui, Monte Ory, Dominio de la Plana, Cinco Viñas, Rancho Viejo, etc. Some wineries that the Gurpegui family has been developing and expanding over time and that in 2016 were acquired by Manzanos Enterprises. Currently, the winery consists of two large buildings, one of them raised in the last extension, with the purpose of housing more barrels, up to 12,500 today, to specialize in the breeding of Reserve and Gran Reserva. A modern construction and perfectly conditioned to achieve the highest quality wine. The facilities of Luis Gurpegui Muga also have magnificent facilities for wine tourism, which allow to see all stages of wine in an exceptional way. The wineries have tunnels of concrete tanks, large processing areas, new stainless steel tanks and pioneering machinery in the sector. The different distribution in different municipal terms of the vineyards of Bodegas Luis Gurpegui Muga allows to take advantage of the qualities that each terroir has and the differences that each variety of grapes presents. This favors and enables Bodegas Luis Gurpegui Muga to produce wines that display the potential and characteristics of each sub-area in which the vineyards are located. The location of the wineries that occupies Bodegas Luis Gurpegui Muga is privileged for the cultivation of the vine, since it contributes some exceptional qualities of high oenological potential. Much of the notoriety of the Luis Gurpegui Muga wines is that they only use the fruit of their own vineyards in the provinces of La Rioja and Navarra. Each area and each valley of the DOCa Rioja have their own singularities that depend, to a large extent, on the climate-soil-plant interrelation. To all this we must add the importance of production and processing techniques imposed by the technical team that, together, determine the uniqueness of a wine. The north of Spain is the region in which the vineyards are located. Specifically on the banks of the Ebro River, the largest and second longest in our country. A unique situation since the influence of two different climates converges: the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. This allows this region to have ideal meteorological conditions for the cultivation of the vine, since the temperatures are mild and rainfall does not exceed 400 liters per square meter. They also emphasize the characteristics of the soil of this region, recommended for quality viticulture, since it has an ideal physiological balance for the cultivation of the vine.
