Martín Códax Finca Xieles Albariño DO Rías Baixas 3x75Cl

The oldest vines of Bodegas Martín Códax are found on the Xieles estate. Facing the sea, they stand on a steeply sloping terrain, divided by stone walls, on granite soil, which is not very fertile and has a low yield. This plot, which measures nearly one hectare, was planted at the end of the 19th century and is one of the most important vineyards with old vines in Cambados. This wine is a tribute to the winemaking tradition of the Val do Salnés. The uniqueness of this plot is that it contains pre-phylloxera vines, which date back to before the varietal conversion and occupied marginal areas, with low fertility, settled on granite soils, with a high planting density and low-growing trellises. From this past, you can still see very old vines, with thin, very twisted or contorted trunks, a reflection of the passing of time. In short, the traces of time have marked each of the vines that give rise to Martín Códax Finca Xieles and imprint a special flavour on each drop that reminds us of our origin and tradition. PRODUCTION: After hand-picking the grapes, whole bunches are pressed. The best free-run must ferments in 1,700-litre concrete eggs, followed by a 6-month ageing in the same tank. The result is a unique wine of great intensity, length and breadth that stands out especially for its minerality.
