Activity
The history of Cafento began in the 1930s, when Don Manuel Rodríguez Rodríguez (Galician) and Doña Pilar Menéndez de la Fuente (Asturian) had their first son, Juan Carlos, in Buenos Aires, and returned to Spain to present him to his family. During his visit to Asturias, the Civil War broke out and it became impossible for them to return to Argentina.
In these circumstances, and based on the experience acquired during their years in Buenos Aires, they decided to found a small store, a colonial store, in the Asturian town of Tineo. This store was popularly known as "El Gallego" and its coffee also acquired that nickname, "El Gallego" coffee. It was later, in the decade of the 50s, when Don Juan Carlos made the activity of his parents' shop independent and that of roasting and selling coffee. At this time, the company is being managed by the third generation family.
