The origin of the rocoto chili is clearly Andean. Archaeological studies record the presence of berries of this variety in tombs that are two thousand years old. Rocoto is consumed in different Latin American countries although it is known by different names such as locoto in Bolivia and Ecuador, and chile de cera or manzano in Mexico.
