Historians know the name of Valdueza because of the relevance of the Álvarez de Toledo in the history of Spain, Europe and America. The romantics would tell you that we are from the last families that still enjoy grazing cattle on horseback from Extremadura to Ávila. For the gourmets the name Valdueza represents a magnificent olive oil, red wine, vinegar and honey.
It is worth highlighting important figures such as D. Pedro Álvarez de Toledo, Conde de Carrión (S XI) and very close to the reconquest; Fadrique Álvarez de Toledo, II Duke of Alba and direct adviser to the Catholic Monarchs; his son Fernando, Grand Duke of Alba; D. Pedro Alvarez de Toledo, Marquis of Miraflores and Viceroy of Naples and Sicily; Francisco Álvarez de Toledo, Count of Oropesa and Viceroy of Peru. Finally, we must mention D. Fadrique Álvarez de Toledo y Osorio, who received the title of Marquis of Valdueza from King Philip IV in 1624, among other things for the defense of Salvador de Bahía against the Dutch when he was Admiral of the Ocean Sea.
The Marqués de Valdueza (and Merula) products are produced on the Perales de Valdueza farm, which has been linked to the family for many generations and is located near the city of Mérida (Extremadura). Said city, Emerita Augusta, was the capital of the Lusitanian province of the Roman Empire. As was the custom, Rome implanted its large cities in lands conducive to the cultivation of the vine and the olive tree.
