An enterprising Valencian, D. Francisco Pérez Adria, fascinated by the wine and the elaborating possibilities of the mencía to which everyone remembers as a great lover of Bierzo and in love with a berciana, Mrs. Obdulia Caramés Sánchez, founded, in 1940, the then-called Winery Francisco Pérez Adriá, built on the Registrar, the family home, his first winery in Villafranca del Bierzo, sowing the germ of a long dynasty of winemakers. After his disappearance, first his widow and then his daughter Rocío, continued the initiative of Pérez Adriá.
In 1975 the company changed its former name to that of Bodega Hija de Francisco Pérez Adriá, which became a joint-stock company with the same name in 1988.
In 2002 on the initiative of Mrs. Rocío Pérez Caramés, following the objective and solera marked by her father, a new society was created, applying the knowledge inherited from Daughter of Francisco Pérez Adria S.A., with the name of Bodegas Adriá S.L. registered within the Bierzo Denomination of Origin.
Currently and relieving Mrs. Rocío, is his daughter Mrs. Margarita López-Teijón Pérez, third generation of winemakers and processors, following the tradition and continuing the work started by his grandfather almost a century ago.
The wines, coming from centenary vines of white grapes and ink, conform to the peculiarities of Mencía reds or Godello whites, which have a marked character, typical of the great Bercian wines, given their location, age, quality of the floors and a unique microclimate.
