Activity
Of all the wine regions of Spain, only two, Priorato and La Rioja, have been designated as Qualified Designation of Origin (D.O.Ca.).
The ancestors of Francesca Vicent have been cultivating their vineyards since the 15th century. The wine tradition has passed from generation to generation. Currently Francesca Vicent, at the head of Celler Cesca Vicent S.A., produces an excellent sample of the wines available in the Priory.
In order to deepen the knowledge of their terroirs, Cesca Vicent has elaborated a detailed map of the soils of his estate related by Vien Asesoria, SL This study is the backbone of the management of the soil and the vineyard, since each terroir has Its particularities and each variety of grape is expressed differently depending on what is explored by its roots.
As a starting point it is known that in our farm there are 11 types of terroirs (gravel, licorella or slate, granite, loess, ...). Taking advantage of this variability, the best expressions of each grape variety are chosen by Cesca Vicent, to elaborate their different wines.
This combination gives its wines some properties and aromas that are not found in any other wine of the D.O.Ca. Priory.
History
Celler Cesca Vicent was founded in 2000 in Gratallops, although the family's winemaking tradition dates back generations. The legacy began with Cecílio Vicent, who recovered and cultivated the family land and founded a small winery after leaving the local cooperative in 1942. In the 1980s, Cesca inherited part of the land and expanded the estate, planting new vines. Since then, the company has tended and harvested its own vineyards, producing wines with the fruit of its land. The winemaking process has evolved with the addition of winemakers and quality control in production.
