It has an enormous prestige, as well as an incalculable value in history and tradition. It is the oldest company in the Basque Country (founded in 1831), and after five generations it is one of the oldest family businesses in Europe.
The distillery is located since 1880 in the center of Amurrio, a town in the historical territory of Álava. As of today, we continue to develop more than 150 references of a wide catalog of its different products and distillates, following the traditional methods learned from their ancestors, combining such artisanal manufacturing systems with cutting-edge technology.
We have a great management team and highly qualified professionals and also within our facilities with 2 museums. One of them dedicated to our history where you can see the different processes of production over time, as well as curiosities of the company over more than a century of history. The other is dedicated to the golden age of the factory, led by the unmistakable Karpy liqueur, and represented the years in which Distillery Acha actively participated in the advertising of the same with our professional cycling team, running up to 6 times the cyclist return to Spain in the 60s / 70s.
History
Founded in 1831 by Paul Pomés in Bilbao as a spirits and liqueurs factory, the company evolved under the direction of Manuel Acha, becoming Destilerías Manuel Acha. Over five family generations and nearly two centuries, the company has continued to pass on its knowledge and experience, consolidating its position as the oldest operating distillery in the Basque Country and the oldest family business in Spain. Located in Amurrio, Álava, since 1884, it preserves working historic stills and boasts a museum dedicated to its history.
Product types
It offers a wide range of alcoholic beverages, including pacharán, whiskey, rum, gin, vermouth, absinthe, vodka, and Karpy orange liqueur. Among its most recognized products are Atxa Pacharán, Haran Whiskey, La Morita Caribeña Rum, 1831 London Dry Gin, Atxa Vermouth, and Karpy orange liqueur.
