The Rivero family has been linked to the world of wine for more than a century. In the 40s, Amador Rivero, father of the current owners, Agapito and Jesus Rivero, began to cultivate the vine and make wine professionally in his winery Faustino Rivero Ulecia in Arnedo (La Rioja). In 2003, the Rivero family decided to build a new winery, Hacienda y Viñedos Marqués del Atrio, SL, taking into account the impossibility of expanding the winery in Arnedo and limited supply of grapes in the area. The family chose the area of Mendavia, in the Ebro valley, since it guarantees a supreme quality of the grape, necessary to satisfy the needs of the market. The Rivero family not only sells wines with D.O.Ca. La Rioja, but in 1988 began to market bottled wine with D.O. Navarra produced in Corella (Navarra) and in 1997 wines with DO Utiel-Requena produced in Requena (Valencia). In 2001, trying to satisfy the demand for varietal wines and current consumption, he began selling Vinos de la Tierra. In 2007, they started selling Cava, having the opportunity to expand in the wine industry.
