History
The Sarral Wine Cooperative dates back to the late 19th century, following the phylloxera crisis that severely affected European and local viticulture. The Sarral Agricultural Workers' Society was founded in 1907, which in 1913 became known as the Sarral Agricultural Union. At the same time, the Sarral Winegrowers' Union was created in 1914. Both unions built Art Nouveau-style wineries and, in 1959, merged to form the Sarral Wine Cooperative. In 1982, the cooperative began producing cava, which led to the construction of new facilities and the expansion of its production capacity. A new winery was opened in the Picaire area in 2019, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and the use of renewable energy.

Product types
The cooperative produces a wide range of wines and cavas under the Denominations of Origin Conca de Barberà, Catalunya and Cava. Its products include rosé, white, and red wines (including barrel-aged wines), and various categories of cavas such as Reserva, Cavas de Trepat, Cavas de Guarda and Guarda Superior. Some notable references are Portell Brut, Portell Rosat Trepat Brut, Portell Vintage Brut Nature, Portell Macabeu Fermentat en Bota, Portell Criança and Portell Glatim. They use grape varieties such as Trepat, Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Macabeo and Parellada.

Mission
The cooperative's mission is to be recognized as a leading and inspiring cooperative in the wine industry, aspiring to become a leading winery in the bottling of wines and cavas, always maintaining excellence in quality, price, and service. Its vision is to maximize the sustainability of viticulture in the region, using cooperativism as an economic structure and wine and cava production as a tool to transmit these values to society.
