History
The company, named Chocolates y Dulces Matías López, was founded in 1851 by Matías López y López. The founder, originally from Sarria, Lugo, moved to Madrid in 1844 and worked in a chocolate workshop before establishing the company. In 1875, Matías López implemented a significant innovation by replacing artisan workshops with a large steam-powered factory for chocolate production. He was also a pioneer in offering advanced working conditions for his time, anticipating concepts similar to Social Security.
